When you approach the limit
Usage is counted per organization and UTC month. At 80% and 100% of the quota a warning is recorded for the organization and shown with the usage bar in Settings → Billing.
When you exceed it
Reaching 100% starts a 7-day grace period: events keep being accepted so nothing is lost while you decide.
After the grace period ingest answers 429 Too Many Requests with a machine-readable body:
{"error":"quota_exceeded","message":"monthly event quota exceeded","org_uuid":"…","limit":5000000,"used":5000000}Dashboards, analytics and exports keep working; only new events are refused. Ingest resumes when:
- the next UTC month starts (the counter resets), or
- the organization upgrades to a paid plan (entitlements apply within seconds).
Soft vs hard limits
- Free: hard limit, ingest blocked after the grace period.
- Pro, Growth, Scale, Enterprise: soft limit, extra events are paid with prepaid overage packs.
