Funnels

Ordered step conversion

A funnel counts how many users performed a sequence of events in order, within a time window.

Defining a funnel

  • Steps: 2 to 10 event names, in the order they must happen.
  • Window: hours allowed between the first and the last step, default 24, up to 90 days (2,160 hours).
  • Date range: only events inside it count.

Name steps exactly as the events are tracked (checkout_started, not "Checkout").

Reading the result

Each step reports the number of users who reached it; conversion is the ratio to the previous step and to the first step. Users are counted once per funnel, even if they repeat a step.

From the API

curl -X POST https://api.iforevents.com/v1/analytics/funnel \
  -H "X-Project-Key: <key>" -H "X-Project-Secret: <secret>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"steps":["view","add_to_cart","purchase"],"window_hours":24,"start":"2026-09-01T00:00:00Z","end":"2026-09-11T23:59:59Z"}'

The key and secret pair is for scripts on your servers only; apps and browsers send the key alone (see Authentication).

{"steps":[{"name":"view","users":1200},{"name":"add_to_cart","users":310},{"name":"purchase","users":94}]}

Tips

  • Start with two steps and add more once the names are stable.
  • A step that never appears returns 0 users; check the exact event name on the Events page.
  • Anonymous events without a user UUID cannot be sequenced; identify users before the first step you care about.
